The Remit
The customer was having issues during a migration from a Cisco switched infrastructure to a new Dell setup. One of our IT partners engaged Performance Networks to resolve the issue.
Some devices weren’t working at all & some not as expected – Mainly their Mitel Phones though. Performance Networks were called in to fix this and advise on the best way to migrate without downtime.
The Process
We initially spent 2 days onsite mapping out the network layout.
Then reviewed all the switch/WiFi & Firewall configurations. All appeared good.
But the Voice VLAN switchport configuration wasn’t working through the new Dell switches.
So further investigation was required.
It turned out a switchport mode that was valid on a previous firmware version was no longer valid on the current firmware(dell also had more modes than other vendors(say HP or Cisco)
The Results
A change of switchport mode fixed the Mitel phone issues.
A few other configuration recommendations also sorted some sub-optimal switching & routing.
A full Visio diagram was provided showing the current physical & logical layout.
